What are your credentials?

Is coaching the same as therapy?

My education and experience far exceed that of most coaches, who may have only taken a brief online certification course before trying to sell you their services. Many have very little work experience in the real world and haven't walked in your shoes.

As for me, I have worked in many settings with diverse individuals, groups, and organizations. I earned an M.S. degree in counseling from the University of North Texas and a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University-Commerce.

I'm also certified as a Chaplain, which many clients find valuable in working through the spiritual aspects of their work life.

Is coaching the same as therapy?

No, coaching is NOT therapy.

Psychotherapy is usually long-term and often focuses on the past, while coaching is briefer and more future oriented.

A therapist diagnoses and treats mental health conditions, using a medical model and focusing on clinical symptoms of impairment.

In contrast, a coach works on a consultation basis with clients who are emotionally and psychologically stable and focused on personal and professional development. Coaching is strengths-focused, action-oriented, and emphasizes accomplishing specific goals.

I live in a rural area with my husband (The Nicest Man On The Planet) and my dog and cat. I am a mom of adult children and a grandma. My favorite things are books, plants, music, mountains, and cheesecake. I'm a middle child, an introvert, and a Jesus girl.

My top 5 on the Gallup CliftonStrengths are: Connectedness, Learner, Intellection, Input, and Deliberative. On the V.I.A. Character Strengths profile, my top 5 are: Spirituality, Perspective, Curiosity, Social Intelligence, and Gratitude.

My favorite drink is iced tea, unsweetened, brewed super strong, with extra ice.
